Divided We Fall

Conservatives are all Nazis, they want to take away all our rights, they hate diversity, they are splitting up families, they want to take women's rights away,  they are the cause of the shutdown, they are ruining our country. Democrats are trying to brainwash our kids, they are trying to take parents rights away, they want to turn our country into a socialist country, they support murdering babies, they want to give our money to people that are here illegally, they are the cause of the shutdown, they are ruining our country. Why are we so divided? Most definitely the media. I watch the news from many different sources and can tell you depending on who you watch your news is different.

Fox News definitely leans to the right. MSNBC, CNN and ABC are definitely left leaning. So, why as citizens do we choose to listen to one news source if it is obvious that each one has their different version of what is happening? Is it laziness or just not wanting to acknowledge that there is another side to the way people see the world? I personally have found watching news, reading, and listening to news that I don't agree with helps me to understand why someone may feel differently on a topic than I do. I also find watching CSPAN and seeing what happens in daily government operations helps me to personally understand why certain decisions are made in the government. When you watch it live and then watch what is posted on the news it is interesting to see the amount of editing that goes into the footage to make it seem like the other side is doing something horrible.  I will also say as someone who voted for Trump his language does cause a lot of division. So does Chuck Schumers. Just because one person does it doesn't mean that it is okay for someone else to do it. These leaders should not only be trying to please Republicans or Democrats. Their job is to bring us together. They need to learn how to compromise.

As Americans living together it is important to understand that not everyone has gone through the same life experiences. Not everyone is like you. We see the world very differently. Most people don't wake up in the morning thinking about how they are going to destroy the world. They wake up with the intentions of doing the best they can and making the world a better place.

The divide in the United States stems from people assuming that the other side is evil because they see the world differently. We need to start waking up realizing that compromise and understanding is the way we move forward. If we continue to stay divided our country will crumble.
